On the road to Sungai Lembing - View 2

On the road to Sungai Lembing - View 1

On the way to Sungai Lembing, I stopped to admire and shoot what is usually known as a secondary tropical forest. Trying very hard with 35mm format to capture the forest in a manner similar to Ansell Adam image of Aspen trees.

Before the scraps thieves came to town

The slides show provides the glimpse of what the tin ore processing plant in Sungai Lembing used to look like. Locomotive heads with Hunslett mark, electrical generator that was known as English Electric and others which were specifically designed, fabricated and patented by the engineers, locally.

The locals were powerless, even though they tried very hard, to stop the scrappies that came from every corner of the country. Some even came from neighbouring countries. The authorities could not, or maybe did not, do anything to halt them. Now, the heritage is gone forever. What's left are these images only.

Compare these images which that you have seen below. They are at the same location. The only difference is that they are about two to three years apart.

All images were shot with Rollei 35 on Ilford Delta Professional 100.

My First Leica Glass - Elmar 90mm f/4

Won it on Ebay, I found that 90mm Elmar attached to Cosina Voigtlander Bessa-R a joy to handle. Below are few shots taken with it. I do not care enough if people are insisting on Leica bodies, but I do like Leica glasses from now on.

My Voigtlander Vito B

Front View

Top View

I bought this Voigtlander Vito B from Hull Camera Exchange in Bradford, UK. From the original receipt, the camera was first purchased in 1957, the year it was produced. Wow! I was not even born yet. However, I am glad that I can associate that year with the year Malaya gained her independence from Great Britain.

Another Picture of the Vibrator Assembly

These pictures were taken in 2001. Since then all iron based artefacts were stolen and sold for scraps. The buildings were burnt and nothing was left. When I was a kid, passing through this area of Sungai Lembing was a great event of the day. I will stopped and admired the working of the machines that smashed and crushed the rocks that hold the tin ores which will then be washed down the shaker (much like panning movement) to separate the black sands, rocks and tin ores.

Ooops Sorry! Not Dtol!

Now where do I get the Dtol from? What I have been using was Kodak XTOL, with formulation for Agfapan APX 100 El 200/Cl 0.65 Fresh 1:1 developer 5.5 minutes (and added extra 2 minutes).

Waiting for a Haircut

The dark spots on the wall are not processing artefacts. They were actual dark spots, but they looked as though they were dark spots on the negative.

Another Example of Fortepan in Dtol

Roots of old trees by the Kuantan River. One thing nice though, the processing faults cannot hide the extreme contrast of Fortepan.

Fortepan with Dtol

It was one of those time when experimenting was the main thing of that particular moment. It turned out that it was such a bad idea. What I get from Fortepan 200 on Bessa-R with 35mm f/2.5 can be described as lost in translation. One of the images is shown here.

Just Starting to Blog

Hi All,

This is my first posting as a blogger. And I am a fan of Ilford XP-2 chromogenic black and white film.
